About Us

Europa General Underwriters (N.I.) Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of RSA, is a specialist Underwriting and Claims agency placing business with RSA Insurance Ireland Ltd who carry an A- rating from Standard and Poors.

Background

The origins of this underwriting and claims handling agency can be traced back to 1991 when the current Managing Director, Jack McIlduff opened an office in Belfast on behalf of Crowe Syndicates at Lloyds. Jack was also involved along with Noel McGrady and Tony Royliston in founding Insurance Underwriting Services Ltd in Galway underwriting Motor and Liability business on behalf of Crowe.

In 1995 the three Founders of IUS Ltd made a decision to form an Irish Registered Insurance Company and Europa General Insurance Company was formed in 1997.

In 2001 Insurance Underwriting Services (NI) Ltd was set up when Jack McIlduff acquired the Northern Ireland underwriting operations of Crowe Insurance Group.

In 2003 the two operations were merged and started trading under the Europa General brand.

In 2006 RSA Group acquired the Europa General business to compliment their existing business in Ireland.

In 2009 RSA Insurance Ireland became a Domesticated Irish Insurance Company using the vehicle of Europa General Insurance Company merging the RSA Southern Ireland business with the Europa General business.

Whilst the office in Galway is now incorporated into RSA Ireland the brand of Europa General in the Northern Irish market is as strong and recognisable as ever.

Today

Our logo is the “Galway Hooker”, a unique fishing vessel tailor-made for the local water conditions in Galway Bay. In the same way Europa General offers tailor-made insurance solutions for our clients.
